Faisalabad Police 2026 directive graphic: CCTV now mandatory for every shop

Faisalabad Police have directed every shopkeeper in the district — from small grocery stores to shopping malls and wholesale markets — to install CCTV cameras within one month or face legal action, including sealing of premises. This is more than a compliance order.

It is a direct response to a troubling reality: over 330 reported cases of child sexual abuse across the district in just the first six months of 2026. Alongside child protection, the directive aims to curb theft and robbery and strengthen the overall security of commercial areas.

Why this matters

The next frontier is smarter surveillance

Basic CCTV is a strong first step. But pairing these camera networks with AI-powered analytics — real-time alerting, anomaly detection, recognition of known offenders — takes them from passive recording to active protection, catching red flags before they escalate into tragedy. Deployed responsibly and with clear public-safety intent, technology can be one of the most powerful tools we have to protect the most vulnerable.

Credit to CPO Tanveer Hussain and Faisalabad Police for a firm, decisive stance. The open question for everyone working in public-safety tech and smart cities: how do we make sure surveillance infrastructure like this is paired with the right privacy safeguards, and actually delivers on its promise?
